Today, I am in charge of how I feel and I am choosing happiness.

Isn’t that I nice way to start your day. Many people moan about things that they are actually in control of. For example: No one can run over you unless you let them. If you look at it that way, it puts part of the blame on yourself.

You have an opinion and it counts as one, no matter how you look at it. That is why we live in a free country (to a certain degree). We have the right to speak out about what we believe in and should never feel that our opinion does not count. If one other person listens, we have made a difference.

You may notice billboards around our area. Do they make a difference? They are advertising and if you look up and read the billboard, then the answer is yes – advertising gets your attention. It may not be anything you are particularly interested in, but you have read it.

What does that have to do with Zapata? We have billboards. They are not all advertising a business, some are honoring our schools and Falcon Lake. Both of these things are important to Zapata County and both may draw people to our area. They may be just passing through, but what they see and read may draw them back. This is the number one reason to help keep Zapata a clean, inviting County. We want others to see Zapata as we see it, a nice place to hang your hat and call home.
