Melissa Ramirez announced the plans to recognize some of our dedicated teachers in Zapata County. The program began in January and will feature a teacher from each Zapata campus. The teachers will receive a beautiful gift basket with useful items, a certificate and a check in the amount of $100.00. Teachers, you are appreciated for your work. Beatriz Guzman and Christina Canales presented the teachers with their award.

Wayne Boatright - Zapata Independent School DistrictJanuary teacher of the month was, Wayne Boatright., a Zapata High School Social Studies/History instructor.  He has been with the ZCISD for 26 years. Principal Jerry Garcia stated that Boatright is a dedicated teacher and goes beyond the usual standards to work with his students, helping them to succeed and set reasonable and attainable goals. He often stays late to work with students.

February teacher of the month was Raquel Martinez. Martinez has been in the teaching element for 33 years, 32 of those with ZCISD. She is a dedicated teacher and feels “Kinder is where it is at!” An inspiring teacher who works well with all the students to encourage them to do their best. She is the Director of the Falcon Lake Queen contest, helping the girls focus on a future – her success in that field shows in the number of girls who have progressed into modeling careers. Raquel Martinez, Zapata County Independent School DistrictHer two daughters are proof also, both having worn their share of Crowns! Principal Elma Almaraz, feels Zapata North Elementary is blessed to have Martinez on their staff.

Congratulation to both of these outstanding instructors!
