There are many famous quotes that have survived the decades. This one, by Drew Barrymore, will probably be added to the list. “Happy people are beautiful. They become like a mirror and they reflect happiness.”
Zapata has also survived the decades. Zapata County is filled with beautiful people, people who are proud of their heritage and want to pass it on to their descendants. The small towns, sadly, are gradually fading into the past. We need these small towns, these rural communities with simple life-styles. When people in big cities vacation, where do they go? Most often their destination is a quiet out-of-the-way location. They want to get away from the hustle and bustle of their own life-style they want something different and relaxing. Zapata offers that.
What does Zapata have? We have a lake, we have walking paths, we have birds, we have wildlife (animals), we have restaurants and most of all we offer “quiet”. The unique thing about all of these options is that most of them cost nothing or very little! Visitors have the option of a nice motel room, an RV space or they can travel a little farther down Highway 83 and stay at Falcon State Park.
Zapata is hot during the summer – we love it or we would not be here! In the last ten years there has been only one day of measurable snow – my son was able to make a snowman about one foot tall, he drove around with it in the back of his pickup truck until it quickly melted. He raked the entire yard to get that much snow together – so don’t bring your skis!
