FAYETTE COUNTY, Texas — A traffic stop along Interstate 10 in Fayette County on Monday morning resulted in the seizure of more than 100 pounds of marijuana.

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office said Sgt. Randy Thumann and his K-9 partner Lobos stopped a Fort F-150 for a traffic violation around 10:10 a.m. Monday. Thumann interviewed the driver, 35-year-old Arturo Pena of Zapata, and identified several indicators that he was possibly trafficking narcotics.

The sheriff’s office said Pena consented to having the vehicle searched, and Lobos alerted Thumann to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle’s auxiliary fuel tank. Eleven wrapped bundles of marijuana, weighing approximately 109 pounds and carrying a street value of $50,000, were found in the tank.
